Former Australia legendary skipper Ricky Ponting has said that Australia must feel like they have gotten out of jail after ENG vs AUS 4th Test. Ricky Ponting also believes that Pat Cummins & Boys will come up with a better show in the next Test at The Oval.

Australia trailed by 61 runs in 2nd innings when rains affected the match. The rains washed out the entire day 5. Australia railed at 214-5 on the scoreboard, trailing by 61 runs. England could have defeated Australia comfortably if the rains didn’t interfere. However, the match ended in a draw.

Australia Will Feel Like They Have Got Out Of Jail This Game: Ricky Ponting

While speaking on Sky Sports during the rail delay on Day 5, legendary batter Ricky Ponting said Australia must feel like they have gotten out of jail this time. He also believes there will be a hollow feeling in the changing room for Australia after the Manchester Test.

“Australia will feel like they have got out of jail this game. If they retain the Ashes, there will be a hollow feeling in the changing room. They will be all about trying to be better next week than they were this week and winning the series at The Oval,” Ponting said.

Australia managed to evade a defeat due to rain. They trailed by 275 runs after the 1st innings. Reaching 214-5 on day 4, it was highly likely for Australia to get all out soon.

Since the visitors were bundled out for 317 in the 1st innings, they could have got for a similar total in the 2nd innings too. As a result, England could have comfortably won the match and leveled the series 2-2.

However, rain arrived as an angle for Australian team and saved them from a huge defeat. Now, with a 2-1 lead after Manchester Test, Australia either need to draw the final Test or win it to grab Ashes 2023 trophy.

England vs Australia 5th Test of Ahses 2023 begins on July 27 (Thursday). The venue of the clash is Kennington Oval Stadium in London. Earlier, the visitors won the 1st Test by 2 wickets and the 2nd Test by 43 runs. England clinched victory in the 3rd Test by 3 wickets.
