Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has revealed that Mitchell Starc dealt with a cramp, and therefore, was taken off the field during their game against Oman.

The Aussies played their first group stage match earlier this morning against minnows Oman at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Led by Mitchell Marsh, Australia are aiming to land their 2nd T20 World Cup title this year, having won their 1st one back in 2021. For them to win the World T20 title, Mitchell Starc's form is going to be very crucial.

The left-arm fast bowler is coming at the back of a title-winning IPL 2024 season with Kolkata Knight Riders, who had made him the costliest player in December 2023. Mitchell Starc had struggled evidently in the initial phase of his return season in the Indian Premier League but he came back to form just in time for the business end of the season.

Mitchell Starc had bowled exceptionally well in the 1st Qualifier as well as the finale against Sunrisers Hyderabad. For his figures of 2/14, Starc had become the man of the match in the finale at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. After seeing his performance, many had even claimed that Starc has well and truly justified his massive price tag.

When was Mitchell Starc called off the field against Oman?

After bowling his first 3 overs within the powerplay, Mitchell Starc returned in the 15th over to bowl his 4th and final spell of 6 balls. His first ball itself was a wide delivery and right after that ball, Starc started to limp and made signals to be called off. As a result of his call, Starc was sent into the dressing room with Glenn Maxwell bowling the 15th over instead.

Many Australian fans got scared as to what happened to Mitchell Starc in just the opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies. The experts were claiming that Starc's workload might not have been managed that well after the 2-month long Indian Premier League season.

Mitchell Starc is going to be massive in Australia's bid for a 3rd ICC title on the roll. The left-armer was key behind the team's success in the World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup last year. This time around, the same will be expected from Starc.

What did Mitchell Marsh say?

After Australia picked up a 39-run victory against Oman earlier today, skipper Mitchell Marsh provided a much-needed update on Starc's situation. Thankfully for the Aussies, Starc only had a cramp and he, along with the team management, didn't want to take any chances as there was a month's competition left in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

"Starcy was just a cramp so didn't want to take a chance. When Starcy says I am okay to go off you let him go off," Marsh said in the post-match presentation.
