Australia’s brilliant win over England in the recently-concluded second Ashes Test at Lord’s has turned a bit sour due to an injury to their spin spearhead Nathan Lyon.
The off-spinner, who was playing his 100th consecutive Test for Australia, suffered a serious calf injury while fielding on day three of the game and had to be helped off the field. Later on day four, he was seen arriving at the ground on crutches. Lyon also praise the cricketing world for putting his body on the line as he bravely came out to bat and shared a crucial 15-run stand with Mitchell Starc for the last wicket.

After the conclusion of the Test on Sunday (July 2), Australia skipper Pat Cummins delivered an update on Lyon. As expected, the fast bowler confirmed that his teammate would take no further part in the ongoing Ashes series. Consequently, Australia will be without their star spinner for the last three Ashes Tests.
When asked during the post-match interview if Lyon was done for the series, Cummins said: “I wasn’t particularly happy but he was pretty keen to get out there. He did an amazing job. I would imagine he is (out of the series).”
Australia wins without Nathan Lyon:
Despite Nathan Lyon not bowling a single over in the second innings, Australia managed to beat England by 43 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. On a tense final day, the tourists must have missed the services of Lyon when Ben Stokes was going berserk but eventually managed to dismiss the England skipper.
The allrounder played a breathtaking knock of 155 runs before being sent back by Josh Hazlewood. Chasing a Lord’s record total of 371 runs, the hosts were all out for 327. England now needs to win all the remaining three Tests to win the series and regain the Ashes.
