Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey has been making the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent times. His stay in England for the ongoing Ashes series has not really been pleasant.

He has faced severe criticism after dismissing Jonny Bairstow in a contentious manner in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s. While he did not break any laws to send back Bairstow, the English cricket fraternity has come down heavily on him, criticising him for now showing the spirit of cricket.

In the first session of a tense final day at the Lord’s, Carey stumped Bairstow after the latter wandered out of the crease believing that the ball was dead. Carey, however, took his chance and hit the stumps with the ball. He and his Australia teammates appealed for a stumping and the third umpire had no hesitation in giving his decision in the favour of the tourists.

Alex Carey yet to pay the barber:

While Alex Carey would have desperately wanted for the dust to settle down and to get the spotlight off him, it looks a big tough time now thanks to a shocking revelation from former England captain Alastair Cook. The former opening batsman has revealed that Carey did not pay a barber after getting a haircut in Leeds one day before the start of the ongoing third Test.

Cook was commentating for the BBC when he made the revelation. The legendary batsman has revealed that he had followed Carey and few other Australian players to a salon on Wednesday (July 7). And while speaking to the barber, he came to know that Carey left without paying.

“Decent haircut at 7pm. I’d been wandering around trying to find somewhere which was open. The barber says the Australians had been in. He didn’t know his cricket very well so he was telling me what they looked like,” said Cook.

“He said Marnus (Labuschagne), the funny one. Then David Warner had a haircut, Usman (Khawaja) had a haircut and he says ‘oh there’s another one…’

“He says ‘one of them, I think Alex is his name’. I said ‘Alex Carey, wicketkeeper?’. He says ‘he hasn’t paid’.

It was one of those cash only barbers and he promised him he would do a transfer later on in the day. True story. He might have paid by now,” added Cook.
