There is absolutely nothing that Ben Stokes cannot do on a cricket field and he proved it once again by taking a spectacular catch on day two of the ongoing fifth and final Ashes Test between England and Australia at The Oval.
Earlier in the series, the England skipper had shown the world his class by playing some breathtaking knocks. He also picked up a few crucial wickets in the first two Tests while bowling with an injured knee. And on Friday (July 28), Ben Stokes proved his worth once again as a fielder by taking a stunning catch to wrap up Australia’s first innings.
England kept taking wickets at regular intervals to stay in the game and had Australia reeling at 185 for 7. But their hopes of wrapping up Australia’s tail were shattered due to fine cameos from Pat Cummins and Todd Murphy. Cummins added 54 runs with Steve Smith before sharing a 49-run stand with Murphy.
Ben Stokes takes a stunning catch:
With Pat Cummins frustrating England, the hosts needed something special to get rid of him, and Ben Stokes eventually rose to the occasion. On the first ball of the 104th over, Cummins decided to take on Joe Root. The Australia skipper hit a full-length delivery towards long on.
The ball was looking set to sail over Ben Stokes’ head for a six. The England allrounder, however, had other ideas. Before the ball could cross him, he caught it with both hands over his head by jumping. The momentum then took him to the other side of the rope. But before that, Stokes smartly tossed the ball in the air, gained control, and completed the catch.
