Australia take on England in the second T20I in Canberra on October 12, Wednesday. The hosts lost the first game and are facing a must-win situation to keep the series alive. Both teams head onto the T20 World Cup after the end of the series.
The first game saw over 400 runs scored with the bowlers from both teams going for runs and batters have a good outing with the willow. To bring semblance to their bowling attack, the Aussies have recalled Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins for the final two games.
This is an important series for both teams and England started off on a winning note in the first T20I. The visitors defended 208 and limited the Aussies to 200. Australian skipper Aaron Finch spoke about going back to the top of the order in the next two games.
“A bit disappointing to lose, at one stage, we looked like we would win, but things didn’t go our way. He’s been a fantastic player, every time he gets an opportunity, he delivers for us at the big stage (on Ellis). Against great players (on bowling to Buttler), sometimes it’s difficult, we can try and execute, but they’re great players for a reason. I will go back to the top next game, that was always the plan. The games against the West Indies and this game was an experiment, but I’ll go back (to the top of the order) in preparation for the upcoming World Cup” said Finch.
England skipper Jos Buttler also spoke about the positives from the first T20I win in Perth. He scored 64 off 32 deliveries hitting eight fours and four sixes in his innings.
It was a great game of cricket and I was delighted to go over the line. They played outstandingly and put us under pressure (on Australia), it was important for us to take wickets, which is what Wood and Curran did. Alex (Hales) has a fantastic record in Australia (playing in the BBL), Salt did well in his chances, but we felt that Alex was the man at the top in Australia and for the upcoming World Cup” said Buttler.
