The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expressed concerns about the controversial dismissal of Mohammad Rizwan in the second Test against Australia. The PCB decided to address issues related to umpiring and technology with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
During Pakistan’s second innings, Australian captain Pat Cummins dismissed Mohammad Rizwan caught behind. The on-field umpire initially refused to give Rizwan out. However, the decision was eventually overturned through the Decision Review System (DRS).
The ‘Snickometer’ displayed a spike just above Mohammad Rizwan’s wrist, prompting dissatisfaction within the Pakistan camp. The wicketkeeper expressed his unhappiness with the decision and reluctantly returned to the dressing room in the Boxing Day Test.
Following Pakistan’s 79-run loss in the Melbourne Test, PCB head Zaka Ashraf engaged in discussions with team director Mohammad Hafeez. Recent reports suggest that the Pakistani board is poised to bring these issues to the attention of the global governing body.
It’s worth mentioning that the rules about cricket and the utilization of technology undergo approval by the ICC Executive Board, a process that includes scrutiny by the MCC Cricket Committee and the ICC Cricket Committee.
We All Know The Basics Of The Game – Mohammad Hafeez
In the post-match press conference, Mohammad Hafeez pointed out the inconsistency in umpiring decisions throughout the game. Hafeez emphasized the significance of prioritizing instincts and the basics of cricket over excessive reliance on technology.
“If you look at the entire game, there were very inconsistent decisions by the umpires. We play this beautiful game of cricket with natural instinct, and we all know the basics of the game,” Hafeez said.
“However, at times, it feels like the focus is more on technology than on the actual cricket being played. I believe this is an area that needs to be addressed,” he added.
It Brings Doubt And Confusion – Mohammad Hafeez
Mohammad Hafeez clarified that he is not opposed to its use but finds it unacceptable when it leads to doubt and confusion. Specifically, Hafeez mentioned his lack of understanding regarding decisions labeled as “umpire’s call.”
“I am not against technology in the game. But if it brings doubt and confusion, it is not acceptable. Some decisions were not understandable. The ball hitting the stumps is always out. I will never understand why there is an umpire’s call,” Hafeez stated.
Mohammad Rizwan’s dismissal in the final session of Day 4 of the Boxing Day Test has left Pakistan on the brink of defeat, disrupting a crucial partnership with Salman Ali Agha. The batting pair added a crucial 57-run stand for the sixth wicket in the 317-run chase.
Australia capitalized on the momentum gained from Rizwan’s dismissal, securing the remaining four wickets in under seven overs to wrap up the game. Pakistan was bowled out for 237 in the final innings. They suffered their 16th consecutive Test loss in Australia.
