Pakistan batter Babar Azam continued his poor form with another subpar knock in the ongoing third Test against Australia in Sydney. Babar Azam was dismissed for a lackluster 23 runs off 52 deliveries in Pakistan’s second innings during the final session of the third day.

Babar Azam entered the crease under challenging circumstances as Pakistan found themselves at 1-2 in the second over. Azam looked in good touch but couldn’t capitalize on his start in his final innings in Australia. He was dismissed by part-time spinner Travis Head.

Babar Azam Ends Australia Tour With Poor Knock

Travis Head claimed a crucial wicket by dismissing Babar Azam in Pakistan’s second innings. The right-handed batter attempted a forward drive, but the lack of spin resulted in an edge, and wicketkeeper Alex Carey comfortably took the catch behind the stumps.

The 29-year-old has struggled to score runs throughout the three-match series, accumulating a total of 126 runs across six innings at a disappointing average of 21. The former Pakistan skipper failed to reach a half-century, with a best score of 41 runs in the Melbourne Test.

Babar Azam’s performance saw a decline in the second half of 2023. The star batter struggled to make an impact in both the Asia Cup 2023 and the World Cup 2023. He scored 320 runs in the nine World Cup matches at a strike rate of 82.90, including four half-centuries.

Pakistan is facing a challenging situation at 68-7 at stumps on Day 3. Following Babar Azam’s departure, the team also lost Saud Shakeel, Sajid Khan, and Agha Salman. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammed Rizwan is currently at the crease alongside Aamir Jamal.

Earlier, the Shan Masood-led team bowled out the opposition for 299 runs and secured a crucial 14-run first innings lead. Aamir Jamal excelled with the ball, claiming six wickets for 69 runs in his bowling. Mitchell Marsh achieved his fourth half-century in the series.

The visiting team failed to capitalize on the first-innings lead and lost two wickets within the first two overs. Veteran pacer Josh Hazlewood took three wickets in the penultimate over of the day. Pakistan currently holds an 82-run lead with three wickets in hand.
