The 1st Test Match between Australia & South Africa at Gabba ended within 2 days as there was way too much assistance for the pacers. A total of 34 wickets fell in the Test Match out of which 30 were taken by the speedsters. A total of only 866 balls were bowled in the Test Match.
With this win, Australia now is getting closer to the World Test Championship Final (WTC 2021-23). The Mighty Aussies are at the top of the table with a percentile of 76.92 whereas South Africa is at the No.3 position with a percentile of 54.55. Skipper Pat Cummins has been bang-on with his field placings.

ICC on Gabba Wicket
Richie Richardson, the match referee made interesting comments on the Gabba pitch. “Overall, the Gabba pitch for this Test match was too much in favor of the bowlers. There was extra bounce and occasional excessive seam movement. The odd delivery also kept low on the second day, making it very difficult for batters to build partnerships. I found the pitch to be ‘below average’ as per the ICC guidelines since it was not an even contest between bat and ball.” said Richie Richardson.

Disappointing performance from South Africa
The Proteas would be crestfallen as setting a target of 34 runs in 2nd innings is quite embarrassing. The batters especially Bavuma & Elgar need to play according to their credentials as their weak link is their batting. It would be interesting to see whether South Africa changes their batting approach in the Boxing Day Test Match.
Skipper Dean Elgar had termed the Gabba wicket as dangerous and was quite upset with the bounce of the pitch. As mentioned by Richie Richardson, there was no even contest with bat & ball; South Africa would be eager to square the series as they have won 3 back-to-back series.
