Cricket Australia has announced its 16-player squad for the upcoming T20 series against the West Indies in the Caribbean this July. Mitchell Owen, who impressed with his performance in the Big Bash League (BBL) and played for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, has received his maiden international call-up, while several Test players have been rested for the tour.

Mitchell Marsh has returned as captain of the Australian team for the T20I series. Notably, Josh Inglis led the side in the three-match home series against Pakistan. All-format players, including Travis Head, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc, will skip the T20 series and return home after the Windies Test matches.

Mitch Owen received his call-up following a standout Big Bash League season, where he scored a match-winning century in the final. With Travis Head unavailable and Jake Fraser-McGurk omitted, Owen could be in line to open the batting in the T20 series.

Josh Hazlewood returns to the T20 setup after recently lifting the IPL trophy with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Meanwhile, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, and Cameron Green are the only Test players staying on for the T20 leg.

Notably, Green will make his return to Australia’s white-ball squad following back surgery late last year. Marcus Stoinis, who retired from ODIs earlier this year, is absent from the squad. Glenn Maxwell is also included for the series.

We Have a Busy T20 Schedule Coming Up - George Bailey

The Men in Yellow will have a packed T20 calendar, with series lined up against South Africa in August, followed by New Zealand, and then India at the start of the home summer.

Selection chief George Bailey emphasized that these matches are key to refining the squad ahead of the T20 World Cup in the subcontinent. He also mentioned that players not currently in the squad still have chances to make an impression and secure their place.

"We have a busy T20 schedule coming up … as we continue to refine and build a squad we think will be the right fit for the World Cup on the subcontinent," said George Bailey.

"There are a number of players outside the squad who can still force their way into the mix for those upcoming Indian series and through the Big Bash.

"The connection, role development and combinations we will have as options are growing nicely as we build towards the World Cup. It’s an exciting time in our T20 space."
