Tensions between India and Pakistan have created a big scare in the cricket world, as several Australian players are now considering leaving the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) after heavy firing along the Line of Control on Thursday (May 8).
With escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan, the Australian players are really worried about their and their families’ safety in the country following an on-air fight between the two nuclear powers that intensified on Thursday evening in many places across India.

Australian players’ agents told the Sydney Morning Herald that several Aussie cricketers are getting worried about their safety in India. Big stars like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh are all part of the ongoing IPL 2025.
Former Australian cricketers Ricky Ponting and Brad Haddin—both are part of Punjab Kings’ coaching staff—are also caught in this growing trouble. Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers' Association are staying in touch with the cricketers and offering them support.
But the fear is real and growing amidst the cross-border firing from both India and Pakistan. As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, Sam Perry and Ian Higgins — the hosts of the popular The Grade Cricketer podcast — have canceled their live shows in India and are heading back to Australia.

Sam Perry and Ian Higgins were performing in front of Indian fans but have decided to leave because of safety concerns. The BCCI is now thinking about postponing or moving IPL 2025 to another country, as the situation becomes more serious.
The latest drone and missile attacks have added to the fear, forcing the BCCI and IPL officials to consider major changes. This war has already affected the Pakistan Super League 2025, as the Pakistan Cricket Board moved the league to Dubai.
The situation turned serious on Thursday when the IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala was called off. A power blackout hit the area after air-raid sirens were triggered in nearby Jammu and Pathankot, raising major safety concerns.

IPL 2025 likely to be moved to South Africa!!
With cross-border tension between India and Pakistan growing fast, the Indian Premier League is facing big pressure. Organizers are now looking at options outside India to keep the tournament going without putting players and fans at risk. And even the same has been hinted at by the IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal.
With the PSL 2025 already moving to the UAE due to rising tensions, the Indian Premier League may now have to find a new home, and South Africa could be the best option. South Africa has hosted the IPL in the past and might come to the rescue again with the situation getting worse.
Arun Dhumal was quoted as saying by PTI, “We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven’t received any directive from the government. The decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind. It is an evolving situation, and any decision will be taken keeping the best interests of all stakeholders in mind.”
Notably, the BCCI arranged a special Vande Bharat train to safely transport players of Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, along with the full broadcast team, from Dharamshala to Delhi.
