Legendary Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood, who was considered to be an asset for the Aussies in the upcoming Ashes tour, has been assessed for a potential hamstring injury. He might be the second hammering for the Australians after skipper Pat Cummins.
The Ashes will be underway from the 21st of November, and the Australians will be defending their title on their home soil against a stronger English side, who have reportedly loaded their most lethal pace attack.
On the other hand, the Aussies have suffered multiple blows before the start of the crucial series. The skipper and most lethal asset with the red ball, Pat Cummins, has been ruled out of the opening clash of the series.
Josh Hazlewood assessed for potential injuries ahead of Australia's Ashes tour
The Australian speed deck already faced a major blow in the form of Pat Cummins, who has been ruled out of the first match in the Ashes. The skipper who was ruled out has been replaced by Steve Smith as the new captain of the Australian side.
Now playing in the Sheffield Shield, Josh Hazlewood has faced an injury that poses a threat to his Ashes campaign. As a result, he is now being assessed for potential hamstring injuries.
Without any doubt, Hazlewood has been Australia's finest bowler on show since the IPL 2025 and his comeback from injury. After leading RCB to their maiden title, the lanky pacer has wrecked through the batting order of several teams, posing a major threat with the white ball until now.
Sean Abbott, another New South Wales pacer, is to be assessed for injury ahead of the Ashes
Josh Hazlewood's fellow domestic teammate and Australian speedster Sean Abbott was picked as a backup for skipper Pat Cummins for the first Test at Perth. The bowler also played a T20 game just last week against India, as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood.
Abbott himself followed Hazlewood to leave the India T20 series midway and join the New South Wales camp to prepare themselves for the Ashes with a Sheffield Shield game. Australian legends Steve Smith and youngster Cameron Green were both seen in the Sheffield Shield rounds.
Abbott, who plays for New South Wales, is also under a major threat and will be assessed alongside Hazlewood for a potential hamstring injury. If both of these tests do not go well, Aussies might lose two pacers going into the first Test.
Who will play alongside Mitchell Starc if Josh Hazlewood is ruled out?
Legendary left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc remains the only veteran star left among the three speedbombs from Australia. With Cummins and Hazlewood gone, Starc will lead Australia's attack alongside Scott Boland.
Boland has been known to replace Hazlewood or Cummins on multiple occasions due to injury before. Alongside Mitchell Starc and Boland, Australia would need their third pacer in the side, and with Abbott gone, they will have to call in replacements.
Beau Webster and Nathan Lyon remain the other two stars with the ball for Australia, who will steam in with medium pace and off-spin bowling.
