Babar Azam Breaks Hashim Amla's Record For Scoring Most ODI Runs In First 90 Innings

Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Babar Azam has achieved yet another major milestone in ODI cricket. On Sunday, August 21, he broke the record of legendary South Africa National Cricket Team batter Hashim Amla to become the batter to score most runs in the first 90 ODI innings of his career.

Pakistan National Cricket Team skipper has been in extraordinary form lately. In the recently concluded three-match ODI series against the Netherlands, he smashed three back-to-back half-centuries. Overall, in his last 10 ODI innings, he has registered 50+ scores 9 times. Babar Azam in his last 10 ODI innings has registered scores of – 158(139), 57(72), 114(83), 105*(115), 103(107), 77(93), 1(3), 74(85), 57(65) and 91(125).

Babar Azam’s 91 runs knock in the third and final ODI against the Netherlands on Sunday helped him reach the tally of 4664 runs in 90 ODI innings. He has scored his runs at an average of 59.79 and a strike rate of 89.74.

Babar’s tally of 4664 runs is the most runs scored by a batter in the history of ODI cricket after the first 90 innings. Legendary Proteas batter Amla had scored 4,556 after his first 90 ODI innings.

The 27-year-old has smashed 17 centuries and 22 half-centuries in 90 ODI innings. His tally of 17 tons is also the most by anyone after the first 90 innings of the ODI career.

Also, Babar (88), Amla (89) and Sir Vivian Richards (98) are the only three batters to reach 4500 ODI runs within 100 ODI innings. Now, Babar needs just 336 runs in his next 10 innings to become the fastest to 5000 runs.

Talking about the three-match ODI series between Pakistan National Cricket Team and Netherlands National Cricket Team, the Men In Green won by 3-0. However, the Netherlands gave a good fight in two games of the series. Also, since January 2019, this was the first time when Babar did not score a century in any bilateral ODI series.
