Pakistan star Babar Azam has reacted to India’s loss against Australia in the final of the recently concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Australia stunned India by six wickets to clinch a record-extending sixth World Cup title on Sunday (November 19). Not many were expecting Australia to win the final but the team from Down Under did not take long to show why they are the greatest team in the history of the competition. Almost everything went Australia’s way as they thoroughly dominated the contest.
Pat Cummins opted to bowl first after winning the toss and his decision was totally justified as he and his fellow bowlers dismissed India for a modest total of 240 runs. For India, KL Rahul (66) and Virat Kohli (54) scored fifties while captain Rohit Sharma played a quickfire knock of 47 runs. For Australia, Mitchell Starc claimed 3 wickets while Cummins and Josh Hazlewood accounted for two wickets apiece.

In reply, Australia were off to a poor start. They were reeling at 47 for 3 after losing the wickets of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith. However, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne did not let India make further inroads in the game. The duo went on to share a mammoth stand of 192 runs to seal the game for their side.
When Mohammed Siraj dismissed Head to finally break the partnership, Australia needed only 2 runs in more than 7 overs. Glenn Maxwell then hit the winning runs to seal a memorable triumph for his side. Head was the to-scorer for Australia, scoring 137 off 120 balls with the help of 15 fours and 4 sixes while Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 58 off 110 balls.
Soon after the final ended, Babar Azam took to Instagram to react. The former Pakistan captain posted a story in which he congratulated Australia, writing: “Congratulations @CricketAus! What a commanding performance in the final.”
Meanwhile, Babar Azam recently stepped down as the captain of Pakistan in all the three formats after his team’s dismal outing in the World Cup. Pakistan failed to make it to the semifinals once again after managing only 4 wins in 9 games.
