Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram criticized the national team after their group-stage exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. Wasim Akram stated that the entire Pakistan team should be sacked for their underwhelming performances in the ICC event in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA).

Pakistan's chances of reaching the Super Eight stage were dashed after the match between the United States of America (USA) and Ireland was abandoned due to a wet outfield. The USA earned five points, which was more than Pakistan could achieve. India and the USA have advanced to the Super 8s from Group A.

The Babar Azam-led team kicked off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a loss against the United States of America via a Super Over. The Men in Green needed to defeat India to stay in the race for the Super 8s. However, they suffered another defeat against their rivals. They registered their first win against Canada.

Nothing Will Happen To Them - Wasim Akram

During a broadcast after Pakistan's defeat to India, Wasim Akram stated that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should replace the entire team rather than dismissing coaches and support staff. Akram emphasized that Pakistani players believe they face no consequences for poor performances.

"Pakistani players think that if they don't perform well, the coaches will be sacked, and nothing will happen to them. It is time to keep the coaches and change the entire team," Wasim Akram said, according to AFP.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had sacked the entire support staff, led by Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn, after Pakistan's failure to reach the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023. Babar Azam had been removed as captain across all three formats, but he was reinstated as the T20I captain earlier this year.

You Select Players Based On Friendship - Kamran Akmal

Former player Kamran Akmal criticized the selection of Shadab Khan over Usama Mir for the Pakistan team. Akmal said that Shadab was picked due to his close relationship with captain Babar Azam. Akmal pointed out that Usama Mir was the top wicket-taker in this year's Pakistan Super League (PSL).

"When you select players based on friendship, you'll get these results. Mir should have been in the squad... That was a big injustice," Akmal told AFP.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan recently criticized the Pakistani team for their disappointing performances at this year's World Cup. Vaughan suggested that Babar Azam might not be picked for top T20 teams like England, Australia, India, or the West Indies.

"I don't think they have the skill set of what I've seen in the past from Pakistan cricket in T20 cricket. I honestly don't think they've got many great T20 players. Babar Azam is exceptional, but would he make England's, Australia's, India's, or the West Indies' T20 teams? Probably not," Vaughan said.

Pakistan will play their final group stage match against Ireland at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida on June 16, Sunday. The Men in Green will leave for Pakistan after their match against Ireland.
