Bangladesh registered a crushing 546-run win over Afghanistan in the One-off Test at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday, June 17. The Litton Das-led team recorded their biggest win in terms of runs and the third-best overall in the history of the longer format of the game.

The hosts declared after scoring 425 runs in their second innings of the match to set a massive target of 662 for Afghanistan. The home team’s bowlers bundled out the opposition for 115 runs in their second innings to register the biggest margin of victory since the 20th century in red-ball cricket.

The last time a team beat the opposition by more than 500 runs was back in 1934 when Australia won the match by 562 runs against England. The overall biggest Test win record by runs belongs to England. The Three Lions beat Australia by 675 at the Brisbane in 1928.

Bangladesh broke South Africa’s record for the biggest Test win by runs in the 21st century. Bangladesh surpassed South Africa’s record of a 492-run victory against Australia in Johannesburg in 2018. This win is the biggest victory for an Asian team in terms of runs.

Najmul Hossain Shanto Guided Team To Win With Twin Centuries

Notably, Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh in their first Test match four years ago. The Bangladesh Tigers made a change with the biggest victory in their Test cricket history. Najmul Hossain Shanto shone with the bat and scored two centuries in the match to help the home side record a memorable victory.

Shanto scored 146 runs in the first innings and helped the Bangladesh team to reach a score of 382 runs. In response, Afghanistan managed to score 146 runs in their first innings. Shanto scored 124 runs in the second innings. He was named Man of the Match for his batting performances.
