BAN vs AFG: "Superb Ton"- Fans React To Najmul Hossain Shanto's Century Against Afghanistan

Bangladesh opener Najmul Hossain Shanto scored his second ODI ton as he scored 104 off 105 balls against Afghanistan in Bangladesh’s second game in this Asia Cup. Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (112) were the two batters to score hundreds in the innings as Bangladesh posted 334/5 in their 50 overs with Shakib Al Hasan (32 off 18) and Mushfiqur Rahim (25 off 15) playing important cameo.

Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a crucial 89 against Sri Lanka and backed it up with a possible match-winning century against Afghanistan. 2023 has been his most productive year in ODI cricket having scored over 500 runs in just 13 matches so far this year. He was unlucky to be run out after slipped mid-pitch.

The southpaw hit nine fours and two sixes after Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat. He added 194 runs with Mehidy Hasan before the all-rounder decided to walk off retired hurt just after reaching his second ODI ton. This was the fourth time when two Bangladesh batters scored ODI centuries in the same match.

The Afghanistan bowlers including Rashid Khan went around the park. Rashid who were expected to be amongst the wicket bowled a wicketless spell for 66 runs. Most of the bowlers bowled at an economy of over 6 and leaked a lot of runs in the final 10 overs.

Shanto’s celebration after he reached his second ODI double ton was to welcome his new-born baby. The Bangladesh opener has certainly made a statement with the bat so far in the tournament.

Sri Lanka won their campaign opener against Bangladesh and are sitting pretty at the top spot. This game between Afghanistan and Bangladesh is a virtual semi-final for the Super 4 stage.

The team who loses this game will be very close to making an exit from the tournament. Afghanistan’s batting will be tested with Bangladesh posting a mammoth total in the end. They need to chase a record total to win against Bangladesh.
