Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra took a slight dig at Team India after Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh in the ongoing ODI series. Aakash Chopra said that Afghanistan crushed Bangladesh in the latter’s own backyard. This is the same venue where India lost the ODI series last year, he added.
Bangladesh crushed India in an ODI series last year in December. Bangladesh outplayed India in the first two games of the ODI series, winning the series after the first two games itself. Later, India stunned Bangladesh in the final encounter with a double ton by Ishan Kishan and a century by Virat Kohli.

Afghanistan has vanquished Bangladesh in the ODI series after winning the opening two games. Aakash Chopra, while praising the visitors for their triumph in his YouTube video, said that it is the same Bangladesh where India lost the series last year.
“Afghanistan have won both matches. They have defeated Bangladesh in their own backyard. This is the same Bangladesh where we lost the series. Remember that series where Rohit got injured and the Indian team lost the series, fell 2-0 behind, and then Ishan Kishan destroyed them in the last match where India won,” the former India opener said.

Aakash Chopra, who played 10 Tests for India during 2003-04, also lauded Afghanistan players for their aggressive spin attack and attacking batting against the hosts. He noted that Afghanistan can be a tough team to face in ICC World Cup 2023.
“They spun a web of spin, the spinners have picked up wickets consistently. Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz – batting has fired. Afghanistan are saying these are also subcontinental conditions and it will be similar conditions at the World Cup in India – so rule them out at your own peril,” the 45-year-old further added.
Afghanistan, led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, dismantled Bangladesh by 17 runs in the 1st ODI by DLS method. In the 2nd ODI, they grabbed a convincing victory by 142 runs. The 3rd and final ODI takes place on July 11 (Tuesday) in Chattogram.
Meanwhile, India, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are also part of the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023. Afghanistan has become a dominant force in Asia. They also grabbed a direct qualification in ODI World Cup 2023, leapfrogging teams like Sri Lanka and West Indies.
