Excluding Mushfiqur Rahim From Squad Is Entirely Management’s Decision: Mahmudullah
Ahead of the first BAN vs PAK T20I on Friday (November 19), Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah opened up about Mushfiqur Rahim’s exclusion from the squad. However, he said that the management takes the decision, and he does not want to say anything in this regard.
“If you ask the team management, it will be better. I am not sure what Mushfiqur said and can only say something after seeing it. This decision (excluding Mushfiqur from T20) is entirely of the team management and I am not ready to say anything in this regard, but all I can say is that we will miss Mushfiqur in the series,” Mahmudullah said.
Mushfiqur Rahim did not have an impressive campaign in ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He scored only 144 runs in 8 games, batting at an average of 20.57. Selectors have said they have given rest to Rahim. However, some reports suggest that the management is looking to induct youngsters into the team after Bangladesh’s miserable show in ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
Talking about leading the Bangladesh team in the future, Mahmudullah said that he is not too worried about it. He also mentioned that he will continue as captain of the team if the management backs him for the role.
“It is totally the team management or board’s decision. I am not too worried about it. I will continue if they think I am good enough. If I have to say about my position (as the captain), then I will have to say a lot of things and I don’t want to say it here,” Mahmudullah further said.
Under skipper Mahmudullah, Bangladesh had a struggling and poor journey in T20 World Cup 2021. The team lost all 5 games during the super 12 round and finished on the last position in the group 1 points table. During the first round of the tournament, Bangladesh also lost a match to Scotland,, which arrived as a big shock for everyone.
