The Bangladesh vs Australia 1st ODI has just got over at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s side creating history by 86 runs (DLS) method as the match was stopped around 42.2 overs when just one wicket was needed to win for the home side to create history and go 1-0 up in the three-match series.
After this win, Bangladesh created a record as they defeated Australia in an ODI match after 21 long years. Australia captain Josh Inglis won the toss and elected to field first. They were still without their regular captain, Mitchell Marsh, and a third-string Australia side is on a white-ball tour for Bangladesh.
Mosaddek Hossain stands tall for Bangladesh
Bangladesh horribly started the match, losing opener Saif Hassan for 5 runs. Then Najmul Hossain Shanto was given a lifeline by Marnus Labuschagne on 9 runs, and it changed the course in the home side’s favour, as Shanto went on to score 67 runs and stitch a partnership of 96 runs with Tanzid Hassan, who scored 54.
Then Towhid Hridoy and Mosaddek Hossain built a partnership of 75 runs as the former was out on 31 runs, but Mosaddek played a superb knock of 86* runs and helped the side to post a good total of 284/8 in their 50 overs, with Taskin Ahmed contributing with the bat, scoring 20 runs.
Australia had no answer to Nahid Rana's bowling
While coming out to chase a target of 285 runs, Aussies lost Matt Short in the very first ball of the second innings as his string of low scores continues. Labuschagne’s poor form continued as the veteran batter soon departed for just one run. Aussies were 2/2 inside the first two overs.
Cooper Connolly tried his best to score runs as the Southpaw was out on 35 runs, with Inglis having a stay at the crease for much time, was out for 19 runs. Australia were at the back foot with 91/4. Then Alex Carey and Cameron Green stitched a small partnership of 37 runs before the former was out on 47 runs.
Green was the only player to score a half-century as he was unbeaten with the score of 52 runs. After Carey’s wicket, no other batter could go past the double-digit mark, and Australia could only score 191/9 in 42.2 overs. Then rain came in, and the home side won as they beat Australia for the first time in a home ODI. Nahid Rana picked four wickets as he was breathing fire in the game.
Pretty disappointing- Josh Inglis after loss against Bangladesh
After the match, Josh Inglis said, "Pretty disappointing on our part, we dropped three or four catches. Around 230-240, I thought it was chaseable. Nathan was excellent across all three phases. he used his variations and was superb throughout."
"The discussion was to play cricketing shots. The pitch was good, but we lost early wickets, no one made a big score and we didn't form a partnership. We have had a look at the conditions now, not great today, but we have another chance in a couple of days."
