With not much time left for the Test series to end with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the latter’s backyard, the former’s cricket board has included Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan for the ODI series following that. Bangladesh’s 23-man preliminary squad involves the above-mentioned players, who skipped the Test series to participate in the IPL in India. The rubber begins later this month for which the players are scheduled to start from the 2nd of May.

Hence, it is unclear when Mustafizur and Shakib Al Hasan would join the camp. Shakib missed the Test series, having been granted leave by the Bangladesh Cricket Board to play in the IPL, in which he is part of the Kolkata Knight Riders. BCB also gave the NOC to Mustafizur Rahman, who plays for Rajasthan Royals, a franchise that has lost its several overseas players.

Nevertheless, with the lucrative T20 league finishing on the 30th of May and the ODI series likely to begin on the 23rd, both are expected to join the national team. The preliminary squad sees the return of Imrul Kayes, who last played an ODI back in 2018. The group would train until the 9th of May, following which they will go for a seven-day break for Eid.

Below is Bangladesh’s preliminary 23-man squad for the ODI series:

Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Naim, Imrul Kayes, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Shohidul Islam.

The three-match rubber is also part of the ICC ODI World Cup Super League in which Sri Lanka are yet to open their account, while Bangladesh has won and lost three. Speaking of the Test series, the first Test resulted in a draw, while the tourists are lagging in the ongoing second. Sri Lanka bowled them out for 251 in the first innings after declaring at 493-7.
