Bangladesh takes on Afghanistan in the last Super 8 match of the World Cup on Tuesday, June 25. Afghanistan needs to win this match to qualify for the playoffs. A win against the Tigers will give them a very good chance of qualifying.

Bangladesh have lost their previous Super 8 matches to Australia and India. They lost on the DLS method to Australia and lost to India by 50 runs chasing 197 to win. They have looked like the most unsettled team in the tournament so far as well in terms of selection.

They now have no chance of qualifying for the semi-final. The equation they need to overcome is a very tough one. They need to beat Afghanistan by a big margin and hope for other results to go their way. If Australia loses to India by 55 runs then Bangladesh needs to win by 31 or more runs to qualify for the semis along with India assuming the team betting first scores 160.

The senior players of Bangladesh have not stepped up. Shakib Al Hasan has been inconsistent with the bat and ball. They have an inexperienced skipper in Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudullah is batting way lower down the order.

The rising stars in Towhid Hridoy and Tanzid Hasan Sakib have not been impactful enough to win games for Bangladesh.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (C)

The skipper will slot in at three. He has not scored as many runs as expected of him. His captaincy has been below par-as well.

Shakib Al Hasan

Towhid Hridoy

Mahmudullah

Rishad Hossain
