Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has rewarded three players for choosing to play for the country over IPL franchises. The country vs IPL debate has been going on in the cricketing fraternity for quite some time now.
Things have changed a lot in recent years with cricket boards around the world ensuring that the players get to play in the lucrative IPL. Most of the cricket boards now ensure to not schedule a big series around the IPL. But on some occasions, the schedules do clash with the IPL, and the decision is usually left to the players.

Bangladesh found themselves in a similar situation earlier this year as they were to play two series against Ireland when the IPL was underway. One series was to be played at home and the other was scheduled in Ireland. And much to the delight of Bangladesh team management, the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, and Liton Das decided to give priority to the national team over IPL.

Both Shakib and Liton were picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2023. On the other hand, Taskin went unsold in the auction but reportedly received an offer as an injury replacement. However, the right-arm fast-bowler decided against playing in the IPL.

And the BCB has rewarded the players now. The Bangladesh authorities have compensated the players by handing them a total of $65,000 (approx. 53 lakh INR) for choosing to play for the national team over IPL.

“This is just a small gesture on our part,” BCB operations chief Jalal Yunus told AFP. “They did not demand any money from us formally, but we felt they should be at least partially compensated, if not fully”.
When asked whether the BCB would regularly reward players for choosing country over IPL, Jalal said: “We believe playing for the national team should be unconditional. But our board will consider it case-by-case, as players’ well-being is also one of our priorities”.

The BCB had also denied clearance to Shakib as well as Taskin until they played the one-off Test against Ireland at home. Later, Shakib pulled out of IPL. Liton, on the other hand, joined the KKR franchise and played just one game before returning to Bangladesh. Taskin had the opportunity of playing in the IPL too but he decided against it.
