Bangladesh Tour Of New Zealand Likely To Go Ahead After The Visitors Test Negative For Covid-19

The Bangladesh tour of New Zealand 2021-22 is most likely to go ahead as per schedule after the visitors were tested negative for Covid-19.

Notably, the entire squad of Bangladesh was sent for quarantine after Rangana Herath the spin bowling coach of the team was found Covid-19 positive.

Team Bangladesh had an indoor training session on December 16 and after that, they had to return to MIQ (Managed Isolation and Quarantine) as New Zealand health officials didn’t want to take risk after a passenger from Herath’s flight contracted the Omicron variant of the virus.

Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud told Cricbuzz about the tourists getting tested negative and informed that they will start their practice sessions really soon. Khaled Mahmud said:

‘We have completed the last corona test yesterday and today the result came out… all of us returned negative, We can come out from here (Managed Isolation and Quarantine centre) tomorrow and start our practice from the morning at the Lincoln University Ground where we will also get the gym facilities.

“After completing the practice, we will move to our team hotel and do all the normal activities.”

Rangana Herath Still Not Allowed To Join The Bangladesh Team

The spin bowling coach has still haven’t gotten permission to join the team Bangladesh and he is waiting for clearance from the New Zealand officials. Once he is tested negative and the officials are satisfied the legendary Sri Lankan spinner will be allowed to join the team.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh tour of New Zealand is scheduled to begin from January 1 2021 and the teams will play a two-match Test series which will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23. The first Test will take place on January 1 at Mount Maunganui, and the second Test will be played at Christchurch from January 9.
