BBL 2021-22: Hobart Hurricanes Appoint Ian Bell As New Assistant Coach

Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Hobart Hurricanes have appointed former England cricketer Ian Bell as the new assistant coach for the upcoming 2021-22 season of the league.

Bell, who has played 287 international games for England across all three formats, was part of Big Bash League (BBL) season 6 as a player with Perth Scorchers, and he has scored 231 runs in just 10 games for the franchise.

After his retirement, Ian Bell has been seen taking over various coaching jobs. He has worked as a batting consultant for England Under-19s during their tour of the Caribbean and assisted Daniel Vettori at Birmingham Phoenix. Also, he was working alongside Chennai Braves in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

Bell, after being appointed as an assistant coach, has said that he is excited to work alongside head coach Adam Griffith.

“I’m so excited to be joining up with the Hurricanes and working alongside Adam Griffith, The Big Bash is, without doubt, one of the best competitions in world cricket, and having previously taken part as a player, I can’t wait to get stuck in as a coach,” he said.

Ian Bell further added that he was fortunate to win BBL as a player, and now he wants to win the league as a coach.

“I already know a great deal about the team having either played with them before or having admired them from afar, and I’m certain we have got some serious talent in there. I was fortunate enough to win the BBL as a player and I would love nothing more than to be a small cog in a winning team but this time as a coach,” he asserted.

Hobart Hurricanes will commence their journey in the BBL11 on December 8 with a battle against Sydney Sixers at Launceston’s University of Tasmania Stadium.
