Perth Scorchers batter Nick Hobson got a lucky escape in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 against Brisbane Heat. The 35th game of the tournament between the teams took place at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Perth Scorchers opted to bat first and they didn’t have a great outing with the bat for most part of the innings and at one stage were reeling at 83/5. However, Nick Hobson played a blinder for the team batting down the order and made sure that he took his team past the 160 runs and gave bowlers something to fight with.
The batter played some majestic strokes and put pressure on the opposition. He, however, also was lucky in the end as he didn’t get out despite the ball hitting the stumps. It happened during the last ball of the innings when Paul Walter was bowling.
Paul Walter bowled a delivery to which Nick Hobson got an inside edge. The ball went on to crash on the stumps but the bails didn’t fall. The batters then seized in an opportunity to take the run and the bowling team looked absolutely shocked.

Nick Hobson played a sensational role for the team and ended with the knock of an unbeaten 48 runs off 30 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 160 and slammed 2 fours and 4 sixes in his innings. His valiant knock at the time when Perth Scorchers looked down and dusted.
His innings powered Perth Scorchers to a total of 163 runs on the board. Apart from him, Cooper Connolly made a valuable contribution to the team. The batter scored 35 runs whereas Laurie Evans too chipped with his 26-run knock. For Brisbane Heat, Michael Neser was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 2/21.
Apart from Neser, Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson, Matthew Kuhnemann and Paul Walter also picked one scalp each. It was a decent effort from their end as they put the opposition under pressure for most of the time in the innings.
BBL 2023-24: Nick Hobson’s proves to no difference between the teams as Perth Scorchers win the game by 35 runs
Nick Hobson’s innings turned out to be a game-changer for the Perth Scorchers as they won the game by 35 runs. Brisbane Heat failed to continue their winning run as they suffered their first loss of the tournament. Scorchers on the other hand, booked their berth for the playoffs.
Josh Brown (29) and Jimmy Peirson (42) gave a great start to the Brisbane Heat and it seemed that they would chase the target easily. But after that Perth Scorchers pulled back things pretty well after the 55 runs-opening partnership by the Heat batters.
Andrew Tye picked four wickets whereas Lance Morris bagged three wickets as they bundled out the opposition for just 128 runs. Max Bryant (29) tried to get going but he fell after a good start. The wickets in the end were taken quickly by the bowlers as they helped the team win and advance to the next stage of the tournament.
