Sydney Sixers pacer Ben Dwarshuis didn’t go easy on Perth Scorchers skipper Aaron Hardie during the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24. Match 39 of the tournament is taking place at the Optus Stadium in Perth, where hosts opted to bat first, after winning the toss.
Perth Scorchers didn’t have a great start as they lost two wickets long with opener Stephen Eskinazi getting retired hurt. But after that skipper Aaron Hardie took charge and along with Laurie Evans bailed the team out of trouble with their partnership.
Skipper Aaron Hardie looked in great touch and played some breathtaking shots. But his stay at the crease by cut short by Ben Dwarshuis during the 16th over. It was a timely wicket for Sydney Sixers as the batter was looking threatening to take his team to the big total on the board.
Aaron Hardie came down the track to loft the delivery from Ben Dwarshuis out of the park. The ball caught the outside edge of the bat and the was taken by keeper Josh Phillippe with ease. At first, it didn’t seem that he nicked but Ultra Edge confirmed it later on.
As Ben Dwarshuis removed the batter, he came close to Aaron Hardie and passed some harsh words. The batter, however, didn’t look interested in replying as he kept his head down and took the long walk back to the pavilion. Here’s the video:

Aaron Hardie played a decent knock for his team. He ended with innings of 32 runs off 24 balls. The Perth Scorchers skipper had a strike rate of over 133 and also slammed three fours in his innings. His knock came at a time when his side was tumbling at 52/2.
Aaron Hardie along with Laurie Evans added 85 runs for the 4th wicket and made sure that Perth Scorchers don’t lose any more wickets till the time they cross the 130-run mark. Their partnership came at a vital time for the team and it put opposition under pressure.
BBL 2023-24: Ben Dwarshuis sends Laurie Evans packing as well
After removing Perth Scorchers skipper Aaron Hardie, Ben Dwarshuis made sure that he put his team in the driver’s seat. He removed another set batter in Laurie Evans and put the opposition under pressure. In the next over after he removed, he sent Evans packing and surely saved a few runs for his team.
During the second ball of the 19th over, Ben Dwarshuis bowled an off-cutter on the off stump. Laurie Evans tried to dispatch it for a six but he ended up saying it. The fielder at deep mid-wicket gobbled it up and provided the pacer with his second wicket for the day.
Laurie Evans played a tremendous innings for the team. He ended with the knock of 72 runs off just 34 balls with a strike rate of over 211. He also smashed 11 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. On the other end, Cooper Connolly (37*) played a decent hand as well as Perth Scorchers ended with a total of 197/4.
For Sydney Sixers, Ben Dwarshuis was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 2/23. Apart from him, Jackson Bird and Sean Abbott bagged one wicket each.
