BCB Announces 16-Member Squad For T20I Series Against India; Jahanara Alam And Fargana Hoque Omitted

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India, which is scheduled to begin on July 9. Surprisingly, two senior players, Jahanara Alam, and Fargana Hoque, have been omitted from the squad.

Jahanara Alam featured in only one match during their previous series against Sri Lanka in May. Fargana Hoque, Lata Mondal, and Fariha Trisna were also dropped from the squad. Left-handed batter Rubya Haider has been excluded from the squad due to a knee injury.

Jahanara Alam Ignored As Nigar Sultana To Lead The Squad In White Ball Series

Nigar Sultana Joty will lead the side, with all-rounder Nahida Akter serving as her deputy. Experienced player Salma Khatun returned to the side after missing the series against Sri Lanka. Dilara Akter, Shanthi Rani, Shorna Akter, and pace bowler Marufa Akter made it into the squad.

Then selector Manjurul Islam mentioned that Salma Khatun was “rested” due to the busy cricket schedule. Selector Sajjad Ahmed stated that Salma has been brought back to bolster the spin attack. Sajjad refrained from commenting on the players who were dropped from the squad.

Bangladesh’s batting lineup will heavily rely on experienced players such as Nigar Sultana and Shamima Sultana. Only two pacers, Marufa Akter and Disha Biswas, were included, while Salma, Fahima Khatun, Nahida Akter, Ritu Mondol, Sanjida Akter, and Sultana Khatun would be spinners.

Bangladesh will host India in both ODIs and T20Is as per the ICC Women’s FTP 2022-25. The series will consist of three T20Is scheduled for July 9, 11, and 13, followed by three ODIs on July 16, 19, and 22. All matches will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.
