Indian wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has been snubbed from an opportunity to be picked as India's second-choice wicket-keeper on the Australia tour despite Rishabh Pant's unavailability. Former chief selector Kris Srikkanth has criticized the Indian selectors for only making excuses behind Samson's snub.
The Kerala-born wicket-keeper boasts incredible ODI numbers with an average of over 56 and a strike rate of 99.60 in 16 outings. Sanju Samson scored a splendid century in his last ODI innings back in the South Africa series in 2023, post which he has not played a single ODI game.
"So, every day the reason keeps changing for each individual" - Former Selector criticizes Indian selectors over snub of Sanju Samson
Talking about Sanju Samson's exclusion from the Indian ODI squad for the upcoming tour to Australia, Srikkanth criticized the Indian management on his YouTube channel. He clearly stated that Sanju should have been picked, especially after his hundred for India in his last ODI appearance.
"Again, very unfair. Sanju should have been there, considering he scored a century in his last ODI. So, everyday the reason keeps changing for each individual," said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel.
"One day you make him bat at 5, then another day you make him open. Sometimes you send him at 7 or 8. How did Dhruv Jurel suddenly come in? Sanju Samson may or may not feature in the 11, but he has to be given the first right of refusal," he added.
"There is only one permanent member—Harshit Rana." Former World Cup winner slams Indian management for biased decisions
Ever since Gautam Gambhir took over as the head coach of the Indian side, the Men in Blue have struggled to settle with one set of players. He has been constantly experimenting with his suitable XI and is yet to reach a desired conclusion.
"By making such selections constantly, they are confusing the players themselves. Even we aren't sure every day what the selection will be," claims Srikkanth.
After calling out the sudden snub of Sanju Samson on his much-deserved spot and also mentioning Yashasvi Jaiswal's selection for the Australian ODI tour, which left Srikkanth baffled, he soon took a massive dig at the Indian management over the unexplained bias towards Harshit Rana.
"Suddenly, Yashasvi Jaiswal is there and then the next minute he won't be there. There is only one permanent member—Harshit Rana. Nobody knows why he is there in the team. By chopping and changing all the time, they'll dent the confidence of the players," he added.
"Best is to be like Harshit Rana and be a constant yes-man to Gambhir to be selected" - Srikkanth's direct dig at Gautam Gambhir
Kris Srikkanth blasted the selection criteria of the Indian white-ball squads. He took a clear dig at head coach Gautam Gambhir, who has been believed to side with the inclusion of Harshit Rana.
"You don't pick some irrespective of if they do well and take others even if they don't. Best is to be like Harshit Rana and be a constant yes-man to Gambhir to be selected. You should start building towards the 2027 World Cup."
"But I feel they've not. If you pick Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy among the probabilities, then you can wave goodbye to the trophy," said Srikkanth.
