The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) is planning to resume the ‘A’ tour program that had huge benefits in the past, and they are in talks with Cricket South Africa to start the process. The A tour programme had been running until the New Zealand series in 2020, which happened to be the last matches before Covid-19 took over.

However, with a lot of vaccinations going around, the BCCI is likely to resume the A tours as well alongside the international series. Players like Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer made an entry into the Indian team through the A tours, and India has been reaping the benefits out of it. The next aim for BCCI would be to prepare for next year’s T20 World cup 2022 by conducting a lot of A tours.

T20 Matches Could Be Included In ‘A’ Tour Programmes

So far, the A tour programme’s have been including four-day games and 50-over matches, and the same is likely to continue again in the month of December alongside the Freedom trophy. However, considering India’s poor performance in the recent T20 World cup 2021, where they faced an early exit, the BCCI would ideally include T20 games as well in the A tours.

India has been dominating the red-ball format throughout the globe despite losing out to New Zealand in the World Test Championship. BCCI will be looking to continue the dominance by conducting four-day games. Also, due to Covid, India has travelled with 18 to 20 players for any tour, and this number is likely to come down with BCCI picking another 15 strength of players for the A tour in the same country.

Rahul Dravid’s Assignments To Start With New Zealand Series

The newly appointed Indian head coach Rahul Dravid will start his era with the Indian side from the New Zealand series at home, and the expectations have been already really high. India will also select a captain for the T20I format after Virat Kohli steps down, and a new NCA head coach will also have to be appointed soon, with VVS Laxman being the likely contender.
