The much-awaited decision on the status of the Asia Cup trophy, which was not presented to the winning side after the Final of the continental championship on Sunday, has been deferred after the BCCI representative exited the ACC online meeting midway after having failed to get clarity on the issue.

The India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 final marked Mohsin Naqvi taking the trophy off the field after the Indian team had pleaded to receive it from the hands of the ACC chief. This led to a massive, controversial row, and the conclusion of the incident was decided to be marked between the Test member nations in an ACC AGM.

Even Suryakumar Yadav voiced his frustration over the incident, saying, “We didn’t close the door and sit inside the dressing room. We didn’t make anyone wait for the presentation ceremony. Trophy leke bhaag gaye woh."

BCCI representatives confront ACC Chief over Asia Cup Trophy row

The members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) met in Dubai on the 30th of September, after the final between India and Pakistan concluded, and had called upon the five Test-playing nations registered under the organization.

The exchange was primarily between the two nations, India and Pakistan, who were debating over the controversy over the Asia Cup Trophy. The Indian representatives, Ashish Shelar and Rajeev Shukla, confronted the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, who presided over the meeting, as per a report in the Indian Express.

Shelar and Shukla insisted that a resolution be made over the trophy, which the PCB chief took away from the Indian team after they refused to accept it from his hands.

Extension of the Annual General Meeting of the ACC

It was decided that the ACC meeting will be chaired by representatives from he five Test-playing members of the ACC - India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh - who will meet offline and break the deadlock, reported Cricbuzz.

The members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), besides PCB, in the formal meeting would find a solution on the issue of the trophy since the BCCI had already vowed to take it to the ICC if not sorted within the ACC.

The meeting began with Naqvi's inaugural address, and then the Mongolia board was congratulated, and so was Nepal on their recent victory over the West Indies. At that time, Shelar strongly insisted on the formal congratulations for the Indian team on winning the Asia Cup, and Naqvi reluctantly greeted the Indian team.

Mohsin Naqvi did not extend his congratulations to the Indian team on winning the Asia Cup

As per the reports from The Indian Express, the Indian officials had questioned the ACC President and PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi on the issue, but he failed to give them a satisfactory reply.

“Shelar informed members that the BCCI secretary, Devajit Sakia, has already written to ACC about the same, but there has been no response. The BCCI wants the trophy and medals to be delivered to ACC’s office in Dubai, from where the Indian board will get them collected."

"However, Shelar didn’t get a positive response for the same. So Shelar and Shukla decided to quit the meeting, marking their protest,” a top BCCI official told The Indian Express.

He also mentioned that Naqvi, despite congratulating others, never mentioned the Indian team winning the title or congratulated them on the same.
