Shafali Verma and the team were hailed by BCCI’s President Roger Binny for winning the Under-19 T20 World Cup on Sunday at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom with a thrilling 7-wicket victory against England. In the top match, the young women’s squad brought their best game to the table to outperform the English side, which offered little resistance.
With the ball, the Women in Blue worked as a team to dismiss England for just 68 in 17.1 overs. To shred the English batting order, Titas Sadhu, Archana Devi, and Parshavi Chopra each grabbed two wickets, while Mannat Kashyap, Shafali Verma, and Sonam Yadav each got one. The Indian squad also put up a fantastic fielding performance, with Somya Tiwari producing a brilliant run-out and Archana grabbing a wonderful one-handed stunner.

Roger Binny Lauds Shafali-Verma Led India U-19 Women’s Team For World Cup Win
Binny praised the Shafali Verma-led side for their courageous approach to writing history throughout the competition.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate the India U-19 Women’s team for their title glory at the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup. The team played with a fearless approach and created history by winning the coveted trophy. This was the inaugural edition of the tournament and our team’s achievement has set a benchmark to inspire the upcoming cricketers in the country,” Binny said in a BCCI media release.

Team India’s players and support personnel will get a financial reward of INR 5 crore for their outstanding performance in the competition, according to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.
The historic victory on Sunday, according to Shah, is evidence that women’s cricket is prospering in the nation. The victory will also assist to raise interest in the forthcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL).
“The India U-19 Women’s team has done the entire country proud by their stupendous success at the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. The Shafali Verma-led unit showed tremendous skill and grit to overcome the challenges and blazed their way to glory. The BCCI has always valued age-group cricket and the title triumph is another sign that women’s cricket in India is thriving.
This success also highlights the depth of cricketing talent in the country and augurs well as we inch closer to the inaugural edition of the much-awaited Women’s Premier League (WPL) which will further fuel interest in women’s cricket,” Shah said.
