BCCI has made it clear that they are not going to play the next Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan. In the Annual General Meeting of BCCI, it was discussed that the tournament should be shifted to a neutral venue. Asia Cup 2023 is going to be played in 50 over format unlike to 2022 edition.
The 2022 Asia Cup was quite phenomenal where there were good match-ups. . The upcoming tournament would be quite pivotal as it would be a stepping stone to ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. It is assumed that the fate of ODIs would be decided in the upcoming marquee event.
Jay Shah on Asia Cup 2023
BCCI Secretary and ACC President was asked about Asia Cup 2023. “Neutral venue for Asia Cup is not unprecedented and we have decided that we will not travel to Pakistan. I have decided that we will play at a neutral venue,” said Shah.
UAE on Cards
According to the statement of Jay Shah, it looks unlikely that India will play in Pakistan. UAE looks like the favourable option at the moment as the nation has hosted a couple of Asia Cups there.
The problem would be to tackle the heat as the tournament is scheduled to be played in September and we had seen in Asia Cup 2022 how tough was it for the players to get used to the conditions.
PCB would be dejected as it has been a long time since Pakistan hosted a multi-national tournament. It would be interesting to see how PCB reacts to this decision as this tournament was very important as they are also given the hosting rights of ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
