The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly looking for a sponsorship deal worth ₹450 crore for the period from 2025 to 2028. Notably, the board ended its association with Dream11 following the passage of the 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill' in the Indian Parliament.
The Indian government banned all online games involving financial transactions. This bill forced Dream11 to terminate its contract as a sponsor for the jersey. The Board of Control for Cricket in India will have to find a new sponsor ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, which is set to begin on September 9 in the UAE.
BCCI Eyeing ₹450 Crore Sponsorship Deal for 2025-2028 Cycle
According to NDTV, the BCCI is looking for a new sponsor for 140 matches scheduled between 2025 and 2028. The deal with Dream11, which was worth ₹358 crore, ended prematurely due to regulatory changes. BCCI wants an increase of over 25 percent compared to the Dream11 contract.
As per the report, the new agreement is expected to cover home and away bilateral matches for the Indian cricket team, along with multi-team tournaments organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
"NDTV sources have confirmed that the BCCI is now looking to get a sponsor for 140 matches from 2025 to 2028. It would be an improved contract in comparison to what Dream11 paid the board. The sponsorship would be for both home and away bilateral matches, as well as multi-team tournaments organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the International Cricket Council (ICC)," the report read.
BCCI Eyes ₹3.5 Crore Per Bilateral Match
The Indian Cricket Board could get ₹3.5 crore for each of India’s estimated 140 bilateral matches. For multi-nation tournaments organized by the ICC and ACC, the expected revenue is ₹1.5 crore per game.
“The BCCI has also set targets of Rs 3.5 crore per bilateral match and Rs 1.5 crore for ICC and ACC fixtures-more than Dream11 but less than what it used to get from Byju’s,” the report stated.
Dream11 became the sponsor of the Indian cricket team in 2023, replacing the ed-tech company Byju’s. The deal was valued at ₹358 crore, with ₹3 crore allocated per home match and ₹1 crore for away fixtures. However, the ban on real-money online gaming impacted the revenue.
India to Begin Asia Cup 2025 Campaign on September 10
India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will enter the upcoming Asia Cup as defending champions, having won the 2023 edition in the 50-over format. Men in Blue are placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Oman, and the UAE.
The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against Oman on September 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. They will face arch-rivals Pakistan four days later at the same venue. India will conclude the group stage against the UAE on September 19 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The Indian squad features a balanced mix of experienced and young players. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer failed to make it into the 15-member squad.
