With growing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering halting the IPL 2025 season. Overseas players are awaiting clarity and reassurance from both the BCCI and the Indian government regarding their safety in the country.

The match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamsala was abandoned on Thursday, May 8, due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. All players and staff stationed in Dharamsala are set to depart the city via a special train on May 9.

While no current venues are under direct threat, the BCCI is considering a temporary suspension, keeping national sentiment and government guidance in mind. Teams will have to adjust travel schedules as per the BCCI's decision.

The upcoming match is scheduled for Friday in Lucknow, where Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). 58 matches have been played in the tournament, including the abandoned game in Dharamsala.

With 12 group-stage games remaining, these will take place across various venues, including two matches in Lucknow, three in Ahmedabad, and others in cities like Hyderabad, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Jaipur. The playoffs will be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata.

IPL Players Uneasy Amid Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions

The India-Pakistan tensions have left players of Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings uneasy since their arrival in Dharamsala. This has led to panic among overseas players in the IPL, who are awaiting assurances from the BCCI and Indian government regarding their safety before deciding to remain in the country.

There is also uncertainty about the game scheduled for tomorrow in Lucknow between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The future action will depend on the directives from the government, with all teams expected to follow the guidelines provided. Gujarat Titans (GT) have reached Delhi for their match against DC on May 11, and Mumbai Indians (MI) are set to land in Ahmedabad for their rescheduled fixture on the same day.

Will Take the Final Decision - BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla

As per the Indian Express, the BCCI is considering all possible options regarding the IPL 2025, including the possibility of temporarily halting the tournament or adjusting the schedule. However, no major decisions have been made yet, as the board is waiting for guidance from the Indian government.

“We are monitoring the situation, seeking the Government’s advice, and will take the final decision on the IPL tomorrow. The situation is changing day by day. We will do whatever we are told and inform all stakeholders. At the moment, our priority is the safety of all players, fans, and stakeholders,” BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told The Indian Express.
