England's Test captain Ben Stokes reckons that Brendon McCullum is a very determined person and his appointment as England's new white-ball head coach will be "unbelievable for English cricket."

Brendon McCullum was appointed England's new white-ball head coach as Matthew Mott was removed from the role in July 2024 after England's failed T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, where they lost to eventual champions India in the semi-finals.

While speaking to Sky Sports Cricket, Ben Stokes shared his views on McCullum's appointment for the role of England's men's head coach for white-ball cricket.

Stokes feels that it is great for English cricket and hopes McCullum can be equally effective in white-ball cricket as he has been for England's Test team.

"I think it's great for English cricket. What Baz (Brendon McCullum) has come in and given this team and the individuals in the team, and the confidence he has instilled in myself and in this team as well is brilliant. I am really looking forward to the guys who are involved in the white-ball team to experience that as well," Stokes said.

The allrounder expressed his excitement and claimed that McCullum is exactly the kind of coach a team wants. He reckons that McCullum can have an influence in every part of the world.

"He is a fantastic human being, great coach. I am really excited for the white-ball sides to be able to go forward with Baz and Jos (Buttler) in the front. He has obviously taken this challenge onboard because he feels like he can make a difference, he can help. That's something you want from your coach. You don't want a coach who is just going to come in and let things play out," Stokes stated.

"Baz is very determined. He is a very determined person to come in and make an influence wherever he goes in the world as a coach. Yeah, I think it's unbelievable for English cricket that Brendon is going to be coaching both teams," the allrounder added.

Brendon McCullum's first assignment as white-ball coach

Brendon McCullum's first assignment as England's white-ball head coach will be the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Australia at home.

His tenure will be till the ODI World Cup 2027 which is set to be played during October-November that year in South Africa.

McCullum is credited for bringing the Bazball approach to England's Test team. Under this approach, England have played an aggressive brand of cricket in the red-ball format and have shown intent to win games.

As a result, England have been fantastic under the coaching of Brendon McCullum and have lost just one series (to India earlier this year) so far.
