Cricket Namibia is all set to host the four-team Global T20 Namibia 2022 series and Bengal Cricket Team will be representing India in the series. Also, Lahore Qalandars from Pakistan and a domestic team from South Africa will be participating in the tournament.

The four-team T20 tournament is scheduled to begin on September 1 and the series will help Namibia to prepare well for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia.

In last year’s T20 World Cup, Namibia qualified for Super 12s and finished fifth in Group 2. In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Namibia are grouped with Sri Lanka, Netherlands and UAE in Round 1.

The last time India and Pakistan domestic teams played against each other was in the 2014 Champions League T20. During the tournament, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) played against Lahore Lions.

Cricket Association of Bengal joint secretary Debabrata Das said that the broadcasters of the Global T20 Namibia 2022 series invited Bengal to take part in the tournament. He added that they are sending a new team to the tournament and the series will help them build the squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

“The broadcasters for the tournament came before our president [Avishek Dalmiya] and invited us. We took the opportunity to play six-seven games before the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy [India’s domestic T20 tournament for men], because we can get to play against a World Cup team,” Das told ESPNcricinfo.

“The ambition is that there are several young players who are playing in local cricket in Bengal and performing fantastically with respect to T20s. So we are sending mostly those young guys so that we can make our team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

“The team we are sending abroad, this is a new team. We want to see how they play, how they tackle this tournament.”
