Bengal Include Wriddhiman Saha And Mohammed Shami In Squad For Ranji Trophy Quarter-final vs Jharkhand

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has included veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha and premier pacer Mohammed Shami in the squad ahead of the Ranji Trophy 2022 quarter-final against Jharkhand, which will be played in Bengaluru from June 6.

Three months back, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Saha had refused to play the league stage games for Bengal citing “personal reasons”.

Saha’s decision not to take part in the league stage of marquee domestic competition Ranji Trophy came on the back of being dropped from the Indian Test squad for the home series against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.

Later, it was also revealed that the veteran wicket-keeper was informed by the India head coach Rahul Dravid that he may not be in the scheme of things going forward because they want to groom a younger wicket-keeper.

Meanwhile, the 37-year-old has been in great form in the Indian Premier League 2022 as he has smashed 281 runs for Gujarat Titans in 8 outings, including 3 half-centuries. Also, he has provided Hardik Pandya and co. with great starts in the powerplay overs.

Wriddhiman Saha’s GT Teammate Mohammed Shami Also Part Of Bengal’s Squad

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has also included Saha’s Gujarat Titans teammate and senior India pacer, Mohammed Shami, in the squad for the quarter-final against Jharkhand but his participation is subject to clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Rahul Dravid because it’s important to manage his workload.

Also, Shami’s younger brother Mohammed Kaif and left-arm spinner Ankit Mishra are in the squad along with Shahbaz Ahmed and Pradipta Pramanik. Other than Saha, Bengal also included young wicketkeeper-batsman Abhishek Porel in the team.

The Abhimanyu Easwaran-led side also includes Nilkantha Das, Sudip Gharami, and Junior state Sports Minister Manoj Tiwary.
