Australia suffered an injury setback in the very first over of their ongoing game against Pakistan in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. Their fast-bowler Tayla Vlaeminck had to leave the field after suffering a nasty injury early in the game.
The incident took place on the fourth ball of the first over when Megan Schutt was bowling to Muneeba Ali. Schutt bowled a full-length delivery outside off and Muneeba went for a drive. However, she could not make good contact with the ball and ended up edging the ball past the slip cordon.
Tayla Vlaeminck chased the ball only to end up suffering a serious injury. As she was chasing the ball, her knee got stuck into the turf and she landed awkwardly on her arm. She ended up hurting her previously-injured shoulder. Tayla Vlaeminck looked in pain straightaway as the physio came running.
Although she received treatment on the field, she could not continue and left the field immediately after suffering the injury. Later, the Australian women's team delivered an update on the bowler, saying that she dislocated her right shoulder. Her shoulder has been relocated but the extent of the injury will be known only after further assessment.
"Tayla dislocated her right shoulder while attempting to stop a boundary. Her shoulder is now relocated and the extent of the injury will be known following further assessment over the coming days," stated the release from the Australian team.

Another setback for Tayla Vlaeminck:
Tayla Vlaeminck has suffered a number of injuries in her career so far and will be hoping that the latest injury setback is not serious enough to rule her out of the ongoing World Cup.
During the 2020 edition of the T20 World Cup, she suffered a stress fracture in her foot and missed Australia's victorious campaign. She also missed the 2022 Women's World Cup due to a shoulder injury. Australia had won that tournament as well.
In 2023, she failed to make the cut in Australia's winning squad for the T20 World Cup in South Africa. The 25-year-old has played 19 T20Is so far and picked up 18 wickets. The ongoing game against Pakistan was her first game in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
