BPL 2022: Shakib Al Hasan's Franchise Issued Show-Cause Notice By BCB Following Bio-Bubble Breach

Shakib Al Hasan‘s BPL franchise Fortune Barishal was issued a show-cause notice by the Bangladesh Cricket Board after they allowed him to breach the covid protocols that is laid in the ongoing BPL 2022. Shakib who is leading the Barishal franchise went for a photoshoot for a TV commercial for a soft drink company.

Shakib Al Hasan skipped the captains’ photoshoot to complete his prior commitments for the TV commercial. He later joined the franchise with a Covid negative report.

“We have already issued a show-cause letter to the franchise [to explain] how he could get out, breaking the bio-bubble. We have instructed them on maintaining the bio-bubble but they have broken that and due to that we have issued a show-cause letter to them” Nazmul told reporters on Friday.

“We could not do anything during the tournament but as it is over now, we will see what can be done. We will not tolerate it if anyone breaks the law” he further added. 

The former Bangladesh skipper went unsold in the IPL 2022 mega auction. None of the Bangladesh cricketers were able to find a franchise in the mega auction. Shakib going unsold was a breaking news within the Bangladesh media. 

Several reports criticised the IPL franchises for ignoring the legendary cricketer from the upcoming season. Shakib’s wife Umme Ahmed Shishir later clarified the reason behind why her husband went unsold at the mega auction.

“Before you get too excited a Couple of teams contacted him directly ahead of time if he can be available for the full season, but unfortunately he can’t due to the Sri Lanka series! This is why he did not get picked which is not a big deal, it is not the end, there’s always next year!” she wrote on Facebook.

Shakib set his base price at 2 crores but went unsold in the auction. He has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. 

Shakib AL Hasan has played 71 games and scored 793 runs at an average of 19.8 and strike rate of 124.5. Also, he has picked 63 IPL wickets at an economy of 7.43 and an average of 29.2.
