BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal Reacts To The Entire Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma Split Captaincy Reports
It was mentioned in the same media reports that the BCCI is also unhappy with how Virat has executed things as a captain, especially in the ICC events. All these reports were certainly piling up the pressure on Virat, the captain, as he has a giant task ahead of winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, leading the Men in Blue to the title.
Board treasurer Arun Dhumal has now finally spoken on the entire media controversy that has been going on and given a verdict of the Board’s stand on it.
“This is all rubbish. Nothing (as) such is happening. This is all what you guys (media) are talking about. BCCI has not met or discussed anything on this issue (split captaincy),” Dhumal told IANS. “Virat will remain as the captain (of all formats).”
Virat’s Captaincy Under The Scanner
Virat Kohli’s captaincy has been under the scanner in the limited-overs format ever since has assumed the responsibility. This is because of his inability of winning ICC trophies and the T20 World Cup later this year could prove to be a massive tournament for Virat Kohli the captain.
In Test cricket, team India has shown commendable progress from 2014 and have gone on to win Test series in Australia twice. In the recently concluded series against England too, India were leading the series 2-1 when it had to be cancelled due to COVID complications in the Indian camp.
However, Virat wasn’t able to win the maiden ICC World Test Championship title for India as the subcontinent giants were beaten by New Zealand in the final of the tournament which took place earlier this year. This has also led to the criticism of Virat Kohli’s captaincy in recent times.
