Brian Lara Joins Cricket West Indies As A 'Performance Mentor'

Cricket’s Legendary batsman Brian Lara has been hired by West Indies as a “performance mentor,” working across formats with the academy and the international teams.

Lara will help the different coaches “provide players tactical advise and improve their game sense” as it relates to the players. Additionally, he will collaborate on the strategic planning for the ICC World Cup with Jimmy Adams, the director of cricket.

I Can Help The Players With Their Mental Approach To The Game: Brian Lara

“Having spent time with the players and coaches in Australia and in discussions with CWI, I really believe that I can help the players with their mental approach to the game and with their tactics to be more successful,” Lara said.

The 53-year-old Brian Lara has already joined the team ahead of the first Test, which will take place in Bulawayo on February 4, and his first duty in the new position will be with the Test team on the tour to Zimbabwe. During the course of the IPL 2023, Lara will take a short vacation to perform his duties as the head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Following their early elimination from the 2022 T20 World Cup, Brian Lara was recently named to a CWI evaluation panel. As they prepare for this year’s 50-over World Cup in India, they are seeking a course correction after being whitewashed 2-0 by Australia in a Test series.

“I am really looking forward to Brian making a significant contribution to our cricket system by providing invaluable guidance and advice to our players and coaches,” Adams said.
