IPL 2021: Chetan Sakariya Was Fearless - Virender Sehwag Praises Rajasthan Royals Pacer’s Temperament Against Punjab Kings

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has praised Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) bowler Chetan Sakariya for his fearless bowling during his debut match against Punjab Kings in IPL 2021. The left-arm pacer Sakariya took three wickets in the nail-biting Punjab Kings vs Rajasthan Royals match in IPL 2021. Sehwag also liked Sakariya’s temperament while bowling in the match.

Chetan Sakariya dismissed Punjab Kings’ opener Mayank Agarwal in the 3rd over. He later returned in the 20th over and dismissed KL Rahul and Jhye Richardson. He also bowled a brilliant final over conceding just 5 runs. Also, he was the 2nd most economical bowler out of the 8 players of Rajasthan Royals who bowled in the match. He gave 31 runs in his 4 overs spell while scalping 3 wickets.

Chetan Sakariya Was Fearless: Virender Sehwag

While speaking to Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag said that Chetan Sakariya was fearless and he didn’t expect that he would bowl so well in his first IPL game.

“I’ve heard his name, even saw him bowl in domestic games but didn’t expect that he would bowl so well. You face different batters in the domestic circuit but in IPL, you come across big and renowned batsmen. We got to see his temperament. He was fearless,” former Indian batsman Sehwag said.

Sehwag also said that Sakariya exhibited a temperament that former Indian pacers Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra used to talk about.

“Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra always say that as a bowler, you should never be scared of getting hit for a boundary. Until you won’t get hit, you cannot learn and pick wickets. So, I think, he [Sakariya] exhibited that kind of temperament,” Virender Sehwag added.

Chetan Sakariya was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs. 1.2 crore during IPL 2021 auction. After Jofra Archer’s ouster from the IPL 2021 tournament due to injury, Sakariya has a great responsibility as a pacer in the Rajasthan Royals team.

In Punjab Kings vs Rajasthan Royals match, KL Rahul smashed a 91-run knock while batting first taking Punjab Kings to a massive total of 221-6. For Rajasthan Royals, skipper Sanju Samson (119) smashed a spectacular century but failed to win the match after needing 5 runs for victory off the final ball.
