In what comes as extremely tragic news, rookie Rajasthan Royals’ left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya’s father Kanjibhai has succumbed to Covid-19 at a hospital in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar on Sunday, if a report published in TV9 Gujarat is to be believed.
The news comes only a day after Chetan Sakariya had visited his ailing father at the hospital. Chetan had got a call last week that his father had returned negative for the deadly virus and was admitted to the hospital.

With the IPL getting suspended due to multiple Covid positive cases across four different franchises, as soon as Chetan Sakariya reached his home at Vartej in Bhavnagar district, the left-arm pacer took a shower, wore his PPE kit, and rushed to the hospital where his father Kanjibai was admitted.
Chetan Sakariya, who was picked up for a life-changing amount of Rs 1.90 Crore during the last IPL auction, had revealed to the Indian Express that he had immediately transferred the payment that he had received from Rajasthan Royals back home and the amount is helping his father in such tough times.
“I was lucky because I had received my part payment from Rajasthan Royals a few days ago. I straight away transferred money back home, and that is helping my family the most in my toughest time,” Chetan Sakariya was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
Unfortunately, the money couldn’t save his father as Kanjubai eventually succumbed to Covid. This is the second tragic occurrence in the Sakariya family this year. Earlier this year, Chetan had lost his brother due to suicide.
