Chetan Sharma Reappointed As Chief Selector As BCCI Announces New Senior Men's Selection Committee

On Saturday, January 7, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the new Senior Men’s National Selection Committee and reappointed Chetan Sharma as the chief selector.

On Friday, November 18, the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to sack the entire Senior Men’s National Selection Committee, which was led by Chetan Sharma, following India’s back-to-back failures at the multi-nation tournaments.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India issued an official statement, inviting applications for the position of the five men’s national selectors and the deadline for the submission of the applications was set as November 28.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Saturday, January 7, announced the appointment of the Senior Men’s National Selection Committee and handed the chief selector position to Chetan Sharma, which didn’t go down well with many.

In an official statement issued by the BCCI, it was stated that the board received around 600 applications for five posts and the Cricket Advisory Committee undertook an extensive process for selecting members.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ms Sulakshana Naik, Mr Ashok Malhotra, and Mr Jatin Paranjape undertook an extensive process for selecting members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee. The Board received around 600 applications following its advertisement for the five posts issued on its official website on 18th November 2022,” the board said in an official media release.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape shortlisted 11 individuals for personal interviews and based on the interviews, Chetan Sharma, Shiv Sundar Das (Central), Subroto Banerjee (East), Salil Ankola (West) and Sridharan Sharath (South) were finalised for the positions, with Sharma being reappointed as chief selector.

“Upon due deliberation and careful consideration, the CAC shortlisted 11 individuals for personal interviews. Based on the interviews, the Committee has recommended the following candidates for the Senior Men’s National Selection Committee.

“The committee further recommended Mr Chetan Sharma for the role of Chairman of the senior men’s selection committee,” the statement further read.
