Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers Inducted Into Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Hall Of Fame

Legendary West Indies batter Chris Gayle and legendary South African batter AB de Villiers have been inducted into the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Hall of Fame.

Gayle and De Villiers have been two of the best players of all time in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both the players have had a major impact on the cash-rich league and are loved and respected by the Indian fans.

Chris Gayle joined RCB in 2011 and played for the franchise till 2017. He dominated the league during his stay at the RCB and smashed 3420 runs in 91 games at an average of 43.29 and strike rate of 154.40, including 21 fifties and 5 centuries. Also, he smashed sensational 175* runs while playing for RCB, which is the highest individual score in the history of the tournament.

Meanwhile, AB de Villiers played for Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2011 to 2021 before retiring from all formats of the game. He is the second-highest run-getter for the RCB in the history of the Indian Premier League.

AB de Villiers smashed 4522 runs for RCB in 157 games at an average of 41.10 and strike rate of 158.33, including 2 terrific centuries and 37 fifties.

In a video shared by Royal Challengers Bangalore on their social media handles on Tuesday, May 17, they revealed that Gayle and De Villiers have been inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame.

It was also stated that a special evening was organised by the Royal Challengers Bangalore management for inducting the players into the Hall of Fame. Also, Gayle and De Villiers were inducted into the Hall of Fame by Virat Kohli.

“Introducing the #RCB Hall of Fame: Match winners, Legends, Superstars, Heroes – you can go on and on about @ABdeVilliers17 and @henrygayle, two individuals who are responsible for taking IPL to where it is today,” RCB tweeted.

“The RCB management organised a special evening inducting AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle into the RCB Hall of Fame,” RCB further wrote.

Legendary Proteas batsman De Villiers, who was present at the event using a virtual conference call, said that getting inducted into the Hall of Fame is an emotional moment for him. He elaborated:

To the boys sitting there, what an amazing privilege. Quite emotional, to be honest. I’ve been a little out of cricket, as you know. Just watching you guys on TV really gets me excited about the things that’s still coming in the season, I believe it is going to be a special one.”

“Virat, thanks for the kind words and everyone from the franchise who set this up, this is a really special touch. We had some amazing time together as a team. Sun has moved on for Chris and I, but we are very much part of the family.”

Meanwhile, West Indies legend Gayle said that his stay at the RCB has been special for him and he thanked everyone at the RCB and said that the franchise will always remain close to his heart. He elaborated:

“I want to thank the fraternity, the RCB franchise for everything. It has been really special to me as well. To be inducted into something fantastic. I will always keep RCB close to my heart. I have shared some memories with some special players, some special coaches as well. “

“Virat, thank you for the kind words as well, it has been fantastic sharing the dressing room with you guys. I want to wish you guys all the best for the rest of the tournament and I am sure you guys can do it. Hopefully, this year will be RCB’s.”
