West Indies legend Chris Gayle’s incredible innings of 175 not out off just 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Pune Warriors India in the 2013 IPL remains the highest individual score in T20 cricket. In that unforgettable performance, Chris Gayle smashed 13 fours and 17 sixes and also smashed the fastest T20 hundred ever off just 30 balls.

However, the Universal Boss admitted that his highest individual score in the history of T20 cricket is in danger and can be broken anytime, but only in the IPL. Gayle believes that the new generation of players is fearless and capable of chasing big targets and scoring at a rapid pace.

Chris Gayle predicts record-breaking knock by IPL stars soon

Among the players the former explosive batter sees with the potential to surpass his T20 record are Nicholas Pooran, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Abhishek Sharma. Gayle believes that once these players find their rhythm, they could break his world record in the IPL.

Chris Gayle said on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, “Like I said, records are records meant to be broken. I think it will happen in the IPL because these youngsters are savage these days. You look at a scoring rate as well, all these guys scoring.

I think Nicholas Pooran and even Shubman Gill can do that as well because he's a very, very good player. And Yashasvi Jaiswal, I like him as well. There is another guy from SRH, Abhishek Sharma. So, like I said, 175 is in trouble. It's going to happen.”

Vaibhav Suryavanshi mentioned that Chris Gayle recalls his U-14 days

The West Indies great also mentioned Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who impressed everyone in the IPL 2025 with his powerful hitting. At just 14 years old, Vaibhav became the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket, scoring 101 runs off 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals this season.

When asked what he was doing at that age, Gayle shared that he was in high school and playing under-14 cricket, highlighting how far cricket has come, with youngsters like Vaibhav dominating the biggest stages like IPL so early in their careers.

Gayle signed off by saying, “I was in high school playing under-14 cricket. That's what I was doing. I was playing under-14 cricket at the time.”

Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma holds the record for the highest IPL score by an Indian. In IPL 2025, he smashed 151 runs off just 55 balls while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Punjab Kings (PBKS). His innings helped SRH chase down a massive target of 246 runs.

Earlier this year, Abhishek also scored 135 off 54 balls for India against England at Wankhede Stadium in a T20I game. India and Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has a top T20 score of 124 runs from 62 balls scored in IPL 2023 against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has the top score of 129 off 60 balls against the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. On the other hand, Nicholas Pooran has four centuries in the format, but he is yet to score a hundred in the IPL.
