Australia chief selector George Bailey opened up about the planning after the David Warner era. He said that they are conscious of making sure that they have a smooth transition and don’t make errors like they did after Shane Warne.
It’ll be the end of the era in Australian cricket as veteran opener David Warner will be retiring after the third game against Pakistan in Sydney. The opening batter earlier talked about his retirement plans and said that he wants to end his career in front of his home crowd.
David Warner has been an incredible servant of Australia for more than the last 10 years and it’s fair to say that getting his replacement will be a tough task for Australia. The opening batter has played a huge role in extending a dominating run in Tests.
George Bailey recently talked about David Warner’s replacement. He elaborated:
“I think when you’ve had someone who’s had that longevity and been so dominating in the role, it’s just to temper the expectations of whoever is going to be the replacement there. Think back to Warney finishing up as a spinner and how many spinners got brought in and shuffled out in the quest to replicate Warney.”

George Bailey added that it’ll be difficult to replicate David Warner as he has opened batting for a long period of time. Bailey hoped to have a smooth transition post-Warner retirement. He elaborated:
“I don’t think you ever try and replicate someone who’s played a role as someone has, and done it as well as someone has, and I’d put David in that category in the way he’s opened the batting for Australia for such a long period of time. That’s something we’re conscious of and making sure that fit post-David is the right one.”
In the career spanning 12 long years, David Warner has 8,487 runs with an average of 44.43 in 109 games. The opening batter has slammed 25 centuries and 36 half-centuries with the highest score, an unbeaten 335.
