Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan has issued a stern warning about the consequences of internal leaks within the Pakistan cricket team, as he addressed the recent dressing room leaks. The former wicketkeeper-batter has stressed that any breach of dressing room confidentiality not only fuels rampant speculation but also becomes masala for global discussion.

In June 2024, former Pakistan captain and team director Mohammad Hafeez claimed that he had found four-five players sleeping in the dressing room during the Test matches in Australia, which sparked widespread criticism among the fans and former cricketers. However, many felt Hafeez should have revealed that incident when he was in charge.

Even after Pakistan’s embarrassing exit from the T20 World Cup 2024, Gary Kirsten, the head coach of the white-ball, opened up about a lack of unity within the Pakistan team. Kirsten had said that “whatever you put, it leaks from the other end,” highlighting a deep-rooted issue in Pakistan for years.

Dressing room leaks and Pakistan cricket are synonymous to each other, which very often spark controversies and affect team morale. The issue gained prominence during the 1992 World Cup, with rumors about internal conflicts and strategy leaks.

In 2009, a series of leaks about team strategies and player disputes surfaced during Pakistan’s tour of Australia, worsening tensions. This problem was on the fore with the 2010 spot-fixing scandal, where internal disputes and controversial player behavior were exposed.

The leaks remain a recurring issue, impacting team unity and performance, while any other day another explosion happens in Pakistan cricket. Reacting to the leaking drama, Khan has stressed that whether it’s sensitive conversations from the coach or captain, such leaks are damaging to team unity and performance.

His comments come amid ongoing concerns about internal discord between the players and unofficial revelations regarding the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) latest appointment of Waqar Younis.

Moin Khan was quoted as saying by The Tribune: “When information leaks from within the team, it gets discussed worldwide. Conversations from the dressing room, whether from the coach or the captain, should not be leaked.”

It would be unfair if India does not come for Champions Trophy 2025: Moin Khan

The former wicketkeeper-batter also hopes that India will come to Pakistan for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Khan stressed that it would be disappointing and unfair if they did not travel to Pakistan for the upcoming mega event after refusing to play the Asia Cup 2023 in the country.

Due to the Indian government’s denial to send the Indian team to Pakistan, the PCB had to conduct India’s matches and the final of the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka, and this time also they are reportedly seeking a hybrid model for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

Moin signed off by saying, “India is a big team, and they should participate in the Champions Trophy. It would be unfair if India does not come to the Champions Trophy after the Asia Cup.”
