In what has been the latest development as per the reports in The Guardian, it is learned that Cricket is all set to be included in the Olympics 2027. It is learned that the LA Olympic Programme Commission and the International Olympic Committee were involved in the discussions and they approved the inclusion of sport in the biggest event.

The reports suggested that the LA Olympic Programme Commission and the International Olympic Committee will make the decision public in the next 24 hours. The reports related to the decision to include cricket in the Olympics have been cherished by the cricket fraternity all over social media.

Cricket has only been played once in the Olympics. It happened in 1900 and at that time only men’s teams took part in it. The match happened between Great Britain and France and Great Britain won the Gold. The match lasted for two days as both teams batted twice and it was a 12-a-side game.

The International Olympic Committee also held talks with the International Cricket Council (ICC), which suggested six-team T20 competitions for both men and women. The top six teams in the ICC rankings will make it into the tournament. The reports added that ICC is also likely to decide on a cut-off date for the men’s and women’s team rankings.

IOC also informed the ICC that the format should be one in which a world championship is held (which would exclude T10, for example), and has a brief duration (which excludes ODIs).

ICC Chairman Greg Barclay Expresses His Delight with Cricket Being Included in Olympics

ICC Chairman Greg Barclay was elated that cricket is being recommended for the Olympics. He said that he’s looking forward to a final decision being made in the future. He stated:

“We are delighted that LA28 have recommended cricket for inclusion in the Olympics. While this is not the final decision, it is a very significant landmark for seeing cricket at the Olympics for the first time in more than a century.

“I’d like to thank LA28 for their support during the new sport evaluation process over the last two years and we look forward to the final decision being taken at the IOC Session, in India, during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next week,” he concluded.
